After the street scenes of Kathmandu, here comes the people of Nepal. Portraits, a type of photography that I like but I was even more excited to add the travel/street component to it. One of the main things here is that you really have to deal with what you got (unless you always go out and take pictures during the same time of day). If the light is bad and you still want to take pictures, you’ll have to accommodate and take the best out of it. It’s something that has always attracted me in concert photography and that is also present here in street portraits.

Two ladies that I met around the Durban Square in Kathmandu. Top : A lady selling peanuts. I actually wanted her smoking but she did not want to be photographed doing that. Bottom: This lady was selling cigarettes and peanuts, she heard my accent and answered in a decent French, what a surprise (She told me later she used to live in the Pondicherry province in India).
The purple scarf (best viewed in larger size, click on the image and sorry if it opens over the blog, I did not manage to fix that problem so far…). FIXED :) L’echarpe violette.
Those eyes will always amaze me. This picture was taken in Sauhara, the town on the border of Chitwan National Park.
This might be one of the “simplest” images but it reminds me such a great moment. We were cold and had Chai somewhere in the mountains at that family house. It is cooking on the fire at the back. I was at the limits in speed and isos and there was nooooo light what so ever. We had a nice chat and thanks to the chai I survived the cold ;).

Portrait taken at the mother theresa elderly home near the Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu.

I saw this lady for a really short time. She was watching her goats and I had to jump back in the truck. The light was really hard but I couldn’t help and try to get a decently exposed shot.
One of the last portraits I took. Hiking down from Ghandruk to Birethanti. He most certainly had never seen himself on a camera and he laughed for five minutes when I showed him the pictures, such a great moment.

Great Pictures!! Really captures the hardship these people have to face on a daily basis but yet they still remain at peace. Thanks :)
